Danes imajo Kirona za planetoid, ki se obnaša kot planet, po velikosti pa bolj spominja na asteroid. Giblje se med saturnovo in Uranovo orbito.
Gibanje vsakega planeta je bilo povezano z bogato simboliko istoimenskih bogov, ki jo je človeštvo gojilo. Kar se tiče Urana, Neptuna in Plutona, je zanimivo, da je obstajala, še preden so te planete odkrili. Tako je naprimer leta 1782 odkritje Urana, ki je simbol spremembe, sovpradala z francosko in ameriško revolucijo, ter razvojem znanosti v tistem času.
Za astrologe je zgodovina vedno pravi zaklad simbol, pa tudi starodavna mitologija. In tukaj najdemo tudi Kirona, dobrosrčnega, plemenitega in modrega Kentavra.

Kiron je sin Kronosa (Saturna) in Filire, zato je bil polbog in nesmrten. Kentavri so imeli človeške glave in konjske trupe. Bili so brutalni in surovi. Kiron pa je bil izjema med njimi, bil je samotarski in prijazen. Vzgajal in učil je mnoge junake. Učil jih je lova, bojevniških veščin, glasbe, filozofije, čeprav je bil predvsem zdravitelj. Zdravil je z zelišči in bil dobro podkovan v kirurgiji, ki je verjetno dobila ime po njem.
Mit pravi, da je bil v boju z kentavri ranjen z strupeno puščico, ker je bil nesmrten, ni mogel umreti in je bil obsojen na večno trpljenje. Ker pa bolečine ni mogel več prenašati, je prosil Hada (Plutona), boga podzemlja, da ga sprejme v svoje kraljestvo, v zameno za Prometeja (ukradel je ogenj bogovom in ga dal ljudem), ki je bil priklenjen na Kavkazu. Mit sporoča, da se je treba zavedati svoje omejenosti in ranljivosti in s tem sprostiti energije. Zato prisotnost Kirona v astrološki karti kaže na nekakšno rano v psihološkem smislu, ki jo mora človek ozdraviti sam.
Z odkritjem Kirona se je začela rojevati ekološka zavest, ki se zdi zelo Kironska: človeštvo čuti, da se mora vračati k naravi, poslušati naravne zakone, močnejša so gibanja za duhovno rast in "čiščenje" ljudi, alternativna medicina dobiva svoje mesto. Napredek povzroča, da je vedno manj naravnega prostora in bomo morali kljub vsemu začeti živeti varčno (voda, elektrika itd.), to pomeni, ozdraviti najprej sebe in nato še okolje.
